Cochrane Attendance Area Updates

Superintendent of Schools

January 30, 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Rocky View Schools (RVS) is very excited that the new Fireside School along with the opening of RancheView School in fall of 2016 will help alleviate overcrowding in our Cochrane schools. The introduction of new schools requires changes to the attendance boundaries which ultimately means many families will be required to move their child(ren) to a new school. New attendance boundaries were set in June, 2015 by the Board of Trustees, following an extensive consultation process with our Cochrane communities. On January 26, the Board of Trustees made further adjustments based on growth in southern Cochrane to have the communities of Bow Meadows, Bow Ridge and Jumping Pound Ridge remain at Glenbow Elementary and Mitford School. Please refer to the attached summary, which identifies school designations by community and all grade level changes to our existing schools for the fall of 2017.
Attendance boundary maps are available for each community and school on RVS’ website under Schools/Attendance Areas. All existing grade 1 to 7 RVS students will be automatically enrolled in their designated school and/or program of choice.
Parents wanting their children to attend a school other than their designated school will be required to submit an out-of-attendance area application form for consideration. Out-of-area requests are approved based on the availability of space, resources, and programming needs. Applications are reviewed in April/May, with parents informed shortly thereafter.
K-8 students attending their designated schools and who purchase an urban bass pass can access bus stops provided at locations approximately 1.5 km from the school. Parents of students who are eligible for school bus transportation can apply for a bus pass with Rocky View Schools’ Transportation Department by visiting If you are unsure whether you reside within or outside of the walk limit, please call RVS’ Transportation Department at 403.945.4104.

Special transition activities will be held by your child’s current school to ensure all students make a seamless and exciting transition. Watch for these activities to be announced by your school.

We look forward to opening this new school and the opportunities it creates for educating residents of Rocky View Schools.
