Fun Lunch this week:  Boston Pizza

Official Welcome Back!
We are excited to have all our students join us again next week!  It has been a busy week for staff as they have been meeting as teams for planning, have been updating assessments in Powerschool and have engaged in literacy professional learning.
Information was shared today regarding government provided masks and rapid test kits.  Please be sure to read through the letter (also attached below).  Once these are received at Glenbow, we will work diligently to get them sent out to families.  If you do not want the masks or rapid test kits, please leave a message on the school voicemail at 403-932-4922 or send us an email at glenbow@rockyview.ab.ca

We can't wait to see everyone on Monday!
Government Provided Masks/Rapid Test Kits
Beginning the week of January 10, we expect to start receiving medical grade masks and COVID-19 rapid test kits from the Government of Alberta for every student and staff member. The availability of enhanced medical grade masks and rapid tests will become valuable tools in addition to our health protocols as we work hard to minimize the transmission of COVID-19. They will be made available to students and staff but are optional to take and use.

In alignment with government recommendations and requirements, RVS mask protocols require all students, staff, and visitors to wear a mask unless they have an exemption under the government’s process. Students and staff are welcome to continue to wear cloth or disposable masks and are NOT required to wear government-provided masks.

Rapid test kits are optional and are NOT required to be taken or used by any students or staff members. Rapid test use is to be completed at home for individuals choosing to use them. We request that if your child/ren test positive that you please inform us so we are aware and can help support your child’s learning while they need to be away.

Once these items arrive, they will be distributed to students and staff as quickly as possible. Each student and staff member will receive a box of at-home rapid test kits, enough to test twice per week for a few weeks if they choose. The medical-grade masks will be distributed to students and school staff via the school. Initially there will be a two-week supply of masks for each student and staff member (two per day). Both pediatric (Kindergarten - Grade 6) and adult sizes (Grades 7 - 12 and adults) will be sent to schools.

If you do not want your child to take the rapid test kit or masks home, please contact the school office as soon as possible at 403-932-4922 or glenbow@rockyview.ab.ca

If you have informed the school you do not want your child to take the masks or rapid tests and change your mind, please contact our school and we will provide them.

The province has provided information about the program and how to use the rapid test kits. If you are considering this option, please review the information below. Please continue to use the Alberta Health Daily Checklist every day before coming to school and for information on when to stay home. Thank you for your support as we work together to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in our schools.

School Council Meeting on Wednesday, January 12 at 7:00pm
Please consider joining us for our next School Council meeting.  We will meet virtually at 7pm for about an hour to chat about activities related to school life at Glenbow.  It is a great way to connect and meet other parents.

New COVID Protocols in place now for Staff, Visitors and Volunteers in RVS Schools

As of January 3rd, new COVID protocols are in place to align with the new Administrative Procedure 173 - COVID 19 Hazard Reduction.  Some key areas from the procedure include:
  • The administrative procedure requires individuals 18 years or older who are NOT students in RVS to EITHER show proof of being fully immunized OR provide a recent negative COVID-19 rapid test result. A person is considered fully immunized after 14 days have passed since they received the second dose in a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine series.
  • Proof of COVID-19 immunization or a negative rapid test result is NOT required for individuals who are in the school/facility office briefly to drop off/pick up items or drop off/pick up children.
  • Proof of immunization will be demonstrated via the Government of Alberta’s QR code (available via https://covidrecords.alberta.ca), along with your ID.
  • Proof of negative COVID-19 test will need to be recorded in a written or printed copy that clearly outlines the type of test, the date and time of sample collection, a clear indication of a negative result and the laboratory that completed the test. Proof of rapid testing remains valid for 72 hours from the time and date of the test.
  • Visitors 18 years old or older who are not an RVS student attending sporting events, school concerts or school events on RVS property will need to demonstrate proof of immunization or proof of a negative COVID-19 rapid test.
  • This administrative procedure is temporary and will be re-evaluated when the government and medical authorities no longer support the identification of COVID-19 as a workplace hazard and/or a minimum of every six months, or as deemed necessary.
A copy of the full administrative procedure can be found at this link or on the RVS website.
Thank you for your understanding.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to the office.
Volunteers
We love our volunteers!  If you are planning to volunteer, please note that you do require proof of vaccination when you sign in.  You may also provide proof of a negative test result from a lab/pharmacy from within 72 hours.  Please don't hesitate to contact the office if you have questions.
