Share the Love!
Mrs. Powers and one of her students, Ella, are both cancer survivors. Together, with their grade 2 class, they are raising money for Kids Cancer Care and the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

On March 14, Ella will cut Mrs. Powers’ hair. You can support their ‘Share the Love’ project by clicking on this link to make a financial contribution: https://app.simplyk.io/fundraising/35b31e26-84a9-4b2a-ac1d-82b99b70d347
Donations will be split evenly between the 2 organizations.  Online donations will be accepted until March 31.

You can also buy beautiful art cards created by Mrs. Powers’ grade 2 class. Proceeds from the sale of these cards will also go to this fundraising effort. If you would like to purchase a set of art cards (set of 5 cards $10) go to School Cash Online and purchase them by February 14 at noon. Cards will be distributed by March 11.
Professional Learning at Glenbow!
Glenbow staff had an exciting and engaging day of learning on January 31st when they participated in a professional learning session with Dr. Marian Small.  Dr. Small is the former Dean and Professor at the University of New Brunswick and is a well known author and international speaker in the area of mathematics.
Dr. Small worked with staff on crafting questions that promote rich conversations and deep thinking in the math classroom.  Our day was spent learning strategies to create questions and working through a variety of examples that can be used right away in our classrooms.  These questions are designed to allow all students to engage in math problem solving and encourage them to share their thinking with their classmates.  It was an amazing day of learning!
Goodbye and good luck to Mrs. Hancock!
We said goodbye to Mrs. Hancock last week as she is taking some time off before her maternity leave.  We are sad to see her go but wish her all the best while she is away from us!
School Council Meeting on Wednesday, February 9th at 7:00pm
Our next School Council meeting is next Wednesday.  Please click this link on Wednesday night if you would like to join us.  It is a great opportunity to hear what is happening at school.
Kindness Month - What Lifts You?
February Kindness month is underway at Glenbow.  This month, each student and staff member will be making feathers for our "What Lifts You (Up)" mural. This mural was inspired by Kelsey Montague's street art, please google it for a preview of what we hope our mural will look like. The feathers we produce will remind us of what brings us joy and helps us spread kindness. Once the mural is complete, each person will have their picture taken standing in front of a pair of wings so they can be reminded of their part in keeping Glenbow School a great place to learn, laugh and make friends. (Pictures will be posted on each student's "My Blueprint Portfolio".

Continuing through the month we will be honouring "Pink Shirt Day" on February 14th due to the school being closed on the actual "Pink Shirt Day". What better day to show your support for acts of kindness than Valentines Day? Remember, you don't need to buy a shirt for the special day;  anything pink would be great (pink ribbon tied around your wrist, pink socks, pants, dress, belt, hair ties, pink paper heart pinned to your shirt)!
AND remember, kindness starts with being kind to yourself!

February is Black History Month

Black people and their communities have been a part of shaping Canada’s heritage and identity since the arrival of Mathieu Da Costa, a navigator and interpreter, whose presence in Canada dates back to the early 1600s.

Black history in Canada has not always been celebrated or highlighted. There is little mention that some of the Loyalists who came here after the American Revolution and settled in the Maritimes were people of African descent, or of the many sacrifices made in wartime by soldiers of African descent as far back as the War of 1812.

Canadians are not always aware of the fact that Black people were once enslaved in the territory that is now Canada or how those who fought enslavement helped to lay the foundation of the diverse and inclusive society in Canada.

Black History Month is about honouring the enormous contributions that Black people have made, and continue to make, in all sectors of society. It is about celebrating resilience, innovation, and determination to work towards a more inclusive and diverse Canada—a Canada in which everyone has every opportunity to flourish.

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching.  If you would like to send in Valentine's Day cards, please be sure to have them here by February 11th.  We will keep them in quarantine over the weekend so they will be ready to hand out on the 14th.

No Valentine's Day Treats (food items) will be allowed in school again this year.  Thanks for your understanding.

Kindergarten Registration is Underway!

Kindergarten is an exciting milestone in the lives of children and their families. These early experiences set the foundation for lifelong learning and begin to build the skills children need to become confident, resilient and contributing members of the community.

Kindergarten eligibility established in the Education Act and subsequent Early Childhood Services Regulations requires students to turn five by December 31 of the school year they wish to begin Kindergarten. This means children born between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2017, can register for Kindergarten for the 2022/23 school year.

Before registering your child, please review the important documentation you'll need on hand.

Kindergarten registration for the 2022/23 school year is open.

Register Online

All registrations must be completed online.

New Families - To register a Kindergarten child who has never attended RVS, please create a new account via SchoolEngage at: https://rockyview.schoolengage.ca/

Please don't hesitate to reach out to the office if you have any questions.

Alberta Education Assurance Survey - For Gr. 4 Families
Grade 4 families will soon start receiving the annual Alberta Education Assurance Survey from Alberta Education.  This survey provides feedback on things that are going well at Glenbow and areas that we may want to focus our improvement efforts.  We are hoping that all our grade 4 families will participate to ensure all voices are heard.
The package that is sent to each family by Alberta Education contains a Random Access Code (RAC).  You will use this RAC to log in to complete the survey.  If you do not receive this by the middle of March, please reach out to the office.  The survey is done on-line.
Thanks very much for helping us make our school a fantastic place for your children to learn and grow.  Your time is appreciated!
Powerschool and Real Time Reporting
Have you had a chance to check out your child's progress in Powerschool yet?  Teachers update student progress regularly in Powerschool as part of Real Time Reporting.  At any time, you can log in to Powerschool to see how your child is doing academically.  You can log in to Powerschool using this link.
There is more information below on Navigating the Powerschool Public Portal.  If you need any help, please don't hesitate to give the office a call.
Caution on walkways
It seems we are starting the freeze/thaw season a little early!  Please be cautious on the walkways around the school.  Mrs. Ireton is working hard to keep things sanded, but it is a big job.  If you happen to notice any spots we need to sand, please drop by the office or find a supervisor and we will address it right away.

Glenbow is a Nut Aware School
