Fun Lunch:  Boston Pizza

Happy Substitute Teachers' Appreciation Week!
Glenbow would like to thank all the Substitute Teachers who support us on a regular basis to keep learning going when our staff are away.  It is a challenging position and we truly appreciate all that you do for our students!
Grade 4 Students Participate in the The Secret 3K Marathon

Glenbow grade 4 students welcomed Martin Parnell last week on March 8th to learn more about and participate in The Secret 3K.  This event was hosted by our Early Act Club, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Cochrane.

In 2015 for the first time ever, a marathon was held in Afghanistan, a marathon that both men and women were able to participate in but they had to keep it a secret because, sadly, there are still places in the world where women and girls are not allowed to run outside. However, a community in Afghanistan courageously decided to carve out a new way forward for the next generation, by creating safe races and so create safe places.

Held on the week of International Women's Day, in March, The Secret 3K run/walk promotes gender equality and everyone’s right to be free to run.

March is Nutrition Month!

The calendar includes tips, recipes and ideas to try this March. Feel free to explore the calendar share it with others and try something new!
French Culture Week at Glenbow
Glenbow School will once again celebrate French Culture Week. This year, our celebration will occur from March 21st to March 25th. During this week, all classes both English and French will participate in a number of activities related to French Canadian culture such as French music and songs, French BINGO, showcasing of staff and some student families who speak French, Sugar Shack activities, and digital activities from ACFA thanks to support from our Friends of Glenbow Society.

On Monday, March 21st, each student is encouraged to bring a block of colored ice for our "palais de glace". Here’s how to prep:

  • Freeze water in a 2 L milk/juice cartoon/ or rectangle ice-cream carton

  • If possible, add a few drops of food coloring before freezing. We encourage students in Kindergarten and Grade 1 to use red food colouring; students in Grade 2 to use blue food colouring; students in Grade 3 to use green food colouring; and students in Grade 4 to use yellow food coloring). This will help us make a colorful wall!

  • On March 21st, cut off the outside container and bring the block of ice to school. Place it in a bag labeled with your child's name.

  • Students will place their blocks in their line-up area and organizers will call classes down to take their blocks out to build the castle.

Are you a French Speaking Family???
In preparation for French Culture Week at Glenbow School held on March 21st to 25th, Mme U's grade 4 class is learning about Francophonie and is working on a project to meet and learn about French speaking families at Glenbow School.
We would love to hear from you if you want to be interviewed by students in grade 4U French Immersion. The interview will take around 10 minutes and it will be arranged by Mme U.
Final presentations will be displayed during our French Culture Week.
If you speak French and you want to participate email Mme U at eungureanu@rockyview.ab.ca
Thank you for your participation.
Skates Looking for Owners!
All our Kindergarteners are equipped for skating and the extra, unnecessary, skates were returned to their owners this week. If we are borrowing a pair of your skates until mid-May, you should have received an email about that.  The photos below are of UNLABELLED skates which we are looking to return. If they belong to you, please contact Mrs Weinert at sweinert@rockyview.ab.ca so we can arrange to send them home to you next week.
Thanks for your generous support of our Skating Program

Kindergarten Registration is Underway!

Kindergarten is an exciting milestone in the lives of children and their families. These early experiences set the foundation for lifelong learning and begin to build the skills children need to become confident, resilient and contributing members of the community.

Kindergarten eligibility established in the Education Act and subsequent Early Childhood Services Regulations requires students to turn five by December 31 of the school year they wish to begin Kindergarten. This means children born between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2017, can register for Kindergarten for the 2022/23 school year.

Before registering your child, please review the important documentation you'll need on hand.

Kindergarten registration for the 2022/23 school year is open.

Register Online

All registrations must be completed online.

New Families - To register a Kindergarten child who has never attended RVS, please create a new account via SchoolEngage at: https://rockyview.schoolengage.ca/

Please don't hesitate to reach out to the office if you have any questions.

Alberta Education Assurance Survey - For Gr. 4 Families
Grade 4 families should have received the annual Alberta Education Assurance Survey from Alberta Education.  This survey provides feedback on things that are going well at Glenbow and areas that we may want to focus our improvement efforts.  We are hoping that all our grade 4 families will participate to ensure all voices are heard.
The package that is sent to each family by Alberta Education contains a Random Access Code (RAC).  You will use this RAC to log in to complete the survey.  If you do not receive this by the middle of March, please reach out to the office.  The survey is done on-line.
Thanks very much for helping us make our school a fantastic place for your children to learn and grow.  Your time is appreciated!
