Fun Lunch:  Jugo Juice

What a day for Mrs Powers and Ella! Share the Love!
It was a memorable day on Monday March 14 for our students at Glenbow - Ella cut Mrs. Powers' hair!  Ella shared her story with students and staff and spoke about her incredible collection of beads.  She has over 500 beads which represent a procedure/visit to the hospital.  She is one brave girl!
Thank you to all that purchased cards or donate to this cause.  Over $7000 was raised!  If you would still like to donate, you have until March 31st.

All proceeds will be donated to Kids Cancer Care and the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
Thank you for your support and generosity!
Gr. 2 Students explored life in Nunavut!
On Wednesday, the grade 2 students enjoyed learning about life in Nunavut, just as if they were there. They had a chance to eat some bannock for breakfast and some students learned how to write their names in syllabics. They went to the community hall (gym) and flexed their muscles by participating in some Inuit traditional games. They went to the art centre and created some Ted Harrison art or some Northern Light pictures. They relaxed by viewing some traditional Inuit legends. They learned a little about the Inuit culture by going to the Inuit museum (our learning commons). There they saw some artifacts and some had a chance to wear some Northern clothing, participate in some drumming and imagine life in Canada's largest and newest territory. Check out the pictures below.
I think everyone agreed that it was a wonderful trip.
Student Led Conferences
Our final set of Student Led Conferences will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.  If you have not booked a conference yet, please visit the Glenbow Conference Manager at this link.  Conferences will be held via Zoom.  We look forward to celebrating all the hard work that has occurred since we last met!
French Culture Week at Glenbow - March 21 - 25
Don't forget your ice blocks on Monday!!

During French Culture week, all English and French classes will participate in a number of activities related to French Canadian culture.   These include French music and songs, French BINGO, showcasing of staff and some student families who speak French, Sugar Shack activities, and digital activities from ACFA. Thanks to our Friends of Glenbow Society for help covering the costs of this fun week!

Ice Block Preparation
Here’s how to prep:
1.  Freeze water in a 2 L milk/juice cartoon/ or rectangle ice-cream carton
2.  If possible, add a few drops of food coloring before freezing. We encourage students in Kindergarten and Grade 1 to use red food colouring; students in Grade 2 to use blue food colouring; students in Grade 3 to use green food colouring; and students in Grade 4 to use yellow food coloring). This will help us make a colorful wall!
3.  On March 21st, cut off the outside container and bring the block of ice to school. Place it in a bag labeled with your child's name.
4.  Students will place their blocks in their line-up area and organizers will call classes down to take their blocks out to build the castle.
Did you know that we have 19 staff members who speak French in our school? Some learned it in school and some grew up in French families. All of them enjoy using their French with Glenbow students! Did you know that all grade 4 students at Glenbow School learn French, even if they are not in French Immersion? If you see a grade 4 student, say Bonjour!
Here are just a few of our incredible staff who speak French!

Skates Looking for Owners!
All our Kindergarteners are equipped for skating and the extra, unnecessary, skates were returned to their owners this week. If we are borrowing a pair of your skates until mid-May, you should have received an email about that.  The photos below are of UNLABELLED skates which we are looking to return. If they belong to you, please contact Mrs Weinert at sweinert@rockyview.ab.ca so we can arrange to send them home to you next week.
Thanks for your generous support of our Skating Program

Kindergarten Registration is Underway!

Kindergarten is an exciting milestone in the lives of children and their families. These early experiences set the foundation for lifelong learning and begin to build the skills children need to become confident, resilient and contributing members of the community.

Kindergarten eligibility established in the Education Act and subsequent Early Childhood Services Regulations requires students to turn five by December 31 of the school year they wish to begin Kindergarten. This means children born between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2017, can register for Kindergarten for the 2022/23 school year.

Before registering your child, please review the important documentation you'll need on hand.

Kindergarten registration for the 2022/23 school year is open.

Register Online

All registrations must be completed online.

New Families - To register a Kindergarten child who has never attended RVS, please create a new account via SchoolEngage at: https://rockyview.schoolengage.ca/

Please don't hesitate to reach out to the office if you have any questions.
