Glenbow Gazette

Friday, September 17, 2021
We hope everyone has settled back into the school routine.  It has been quite the start.  We appreciate everyone's flexibility with the changes we have experienced this year.  If you have any questions, please connect with your child's teacher.  As always, the office is also here to help!
Rockyview Schools released an updated Return To School plan on Thursday morning.  Please be sure to take a read through the updated plan.  Glenbow will be working to ensure the measures in the plan are in place.  A link to the plan is here:
RVS Return to School Plan
Parking lot at Glenbow
This a reminder that the parking lot by the school is for Glenbow employees only.  We have noticed that some families are parking in the lot in the morning and afternoon.  If you could find a spot in the community, that would be ideal
Also, please ensure you are not walking through the parking lot in the morning or afternoon.  This is a busy place and can be very dangerous.  We want to keep everyone safe!
Thanks for your understanding!
It is so great to see so many happy parents dropping off and picking up your children each day.  We are asking that you stand back on the grass (just off the pavement) now that we have our new physical distancing requirements in place.  We want to ensure we have lots of space for our student line ups.
Glenbow is a Nut Aware School
Please ensure that your child's lunches do not include nuts or nut products.  We have a number of students who have life threatening allergies.  This includes things like peanut butter and nutella.
Thank you very much for helping keep our students safe!
Thank you to the parents that joined us for our first School Council meeting this past week.  It was great to have our first in person meeting in over a year!  Next month, we hope you will join us as we meet to discuss all the great things happening at Glenbow.  Our next meeting will likely be held via Zoom.  Please save the date!  We will meet on October 13th at 7pm.
Terry Fox Run - Friday, Sept. 17
Glenbow students participated in the Terry Fox Run during their gym classes today.  This is the 41st year of the run!  We are collecting Toonies for Terry again this year.  Our school has been a long-time supporter of the Terry Fox Foundation and we hope to raise whatever we can this year.

We are excited to share our very own Glenbow Terry Fox video.  Thank you to Ella and Mrs. Powers for sharing their stories.  You can watch the video here:  https://youtu.be/E1-xaaTmG3M

So far, we have raised $1184.80!  Way to go Glenbow.  You can still donate.  We have 3 options to accept donations.

1.    Bring a toonie with your child to school
2.    You can donate via SchoolCash Online.  You can find the link here:  SchoolCash Online
3.    If you would like to make a larger donation and receive a tax receipt, please make your donation directly to the Terry Fox Foundation linked to Glenbow School  http://www.terryfox.ca/GlenbowElementary

Thanks for your support!

Dear RVS Parents/Guardians,

Today, the Rocky View Schools (RVS) Board of Trustees voted to alter the 2021/22 school year calendar and observe the new federal holiday, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, on Sept. 30. This day has been set aside by the Government of Canada to commemorate the history and ongoing trauma caused by residential schools and to honour the survivors, families and communities who continue to grieve for those who were lost.

The 2021/22 school year calendar now includes Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, as a non-operational day (no classes in school or online).

We recognize that this calendar alteration has been made with little notice to families and for this we apologize. As a public education institution, we believe it is an important step on our journey towards truth and reconciliation to recognize the history and legacy of residential schools in Canada.

The revised 2021/22 school year calendar is available on the RVS website.

Sincerely,

Fiona Gilbert, Board Chair
