Glenbow Community Garden Summer Watering

Glenbow School is so fortunate to share a partnership with Glenbow Community Gardens, and the benefactors are your children! Usually, the gardens provide a rich learning environment for children to experience the gardening process, from making decisions about what to plant, preparing the soil for planting, planting and maintaining the gardens, and finally, enjoying the fruits of their labor through harvest.

Students from various classes weeded boxes and then planted them in boxes 1-12 and the large box C.

WE NEED YOUR HELP, PLEASE! The gardens have been planted, now they need to be watered, starting right away. What a great way to spend some family time! When the students return to school, beautiful fresh vegetables will be ready for harvesting. But this can only happen if the gardens are watered often.

HOW CAN YOU HELP??  We are asking that families choose 1 week (or more if you like!) from June and/or August, to help keep our gardens watered. Perhaps there is one week when you know you will be in Cochrane and would like to water the vegetables. We will do our best to pair you up with another family, so the workload is lighter. There is a HUGE water tank and watering cans at the gardens to make watering easier.

PLEASE LET US KNOW WHICH WEEK(S) WILL WORK FOR YOU! We are only responsible for Glenbow School’s garden plots, 1-12, and potato bed C, which are clearly marked.  If you are willing to contribute to this enriching life experience, please send your name, best email address, phone number and available week(s) to:  glenbow@rockyview.ab.ca  by June 21.  Thank you for the families who have signed up on a couple of weeks already.

Weeks are: June 25-July 1; July 2 - July 8; July 9 -July 15; July 16 -July 22; July 23 -July 29; July 30 - Aug 5; Aug 6 -Aug 12; Aug 13-Aug 19; Aug 20-Aug 26; Aug 27-Sept 2

A schedule will be created, then you will be notified of all the details right away. And while you are watering, why not pick some rhubarb to have with your dinner…….

THANK YOU FOR BEING PART OF SOMETHING SO WHOLESOME AND WONDERFUL!

Glenbow’s Environmental Stewards

Ecoschools Platinum for 2023!!!
We are thrilled to share with our community that Glenbow received Platinum Certification for Ecoschools this year!  This is the highest level of achievement in the program and we are so proud of all the work that our Ecosquad did this year for our school.  This is not an easy achievement and required many hours of work and documentation.  Thank you to Mrs. Powers, Mrs. Vincent, Mrs. Jensen and Ms. Heschl-Ball for all their work with the Ecosquad.  They met each Monday to work on initiatives for our school and their impact was incredible.  Some of these initiatives included getting GOOS paper bins in all areas of the school, planting in our community garden, completing a variety of Earth Day activities, and taking their learning outside.
We are excited to continue this work again next year!
Fun Lunch Needs Your Help!!
The Fun Lunch program is in desperate need of volunteers. The program is 100% volunteer run through the School Council. We are looking for help on Mondays from approximately 10:45am-12pm to help sort and deliver food to classes. We are also looking for someone who can submit our orders to the vendors and type up labels weekly. If we do not get more volunteer help we will have to change how we run the fun lunch program which means a price increase for items. If you need to bring a child along with you, that is okay!  If you can help please email Amanda, our School Council Chair, at glenbow-schoolcouncil@rvschools.ab.ca
Do you need to update your contact information?
We like to keep our records as up to date as possible.  If you have moved, changed your phone number or email address since September 2022, please call the office at 403-932-4922 or email kstewart@rockyview.ab.ca with the updated information.
We would also like to know if you are planning to move before the start of the 2023/24 school year.
Thank you.

Glenbow School Playground Fundraising
Glenbow School Council and Friends of Glenbow Education Society are in the process of raising the funds to build a new, fully inclusive and accessible, state of the art playground and outdoor classroom/learning space at Glenbow School.

Our goal is to raise $500,000 through fundraising, grants and donations by 2025. We are asking for the help of parents of Glenbow to spread the word and help us make this playground a success. If you work for a company or know of a company who would be interested in donating please send me an email at glenbow-schoolcouncil@rvschools.ab.ca.  Glenbow School is an amazing community and we are grateful for all your support.
Glenbow School Council and Friends of Glenbow Society

We are a Nut Aware and Scent Free school.  This means we want to ensure that all lunch and snacks do not contain nuts.  We have a number of students with life threatening allergies.  This includes things like Nutella and Peanut Butter.  We also have students and staff with severe allergies to scents.  Please do not wear any perfumes or colognes if you are volunteering in the school.  Thanks for your understanding.
Please Drive Slowly in the School Zone!
As we get back to school, please ensure you are driving slowly through the school zone around Glenbow.  We want to ensure all students get to and from school safely each day!
No Parking or Walking in the Staff Parking Lot
This is a reminder that there is no parking in the staff parking lot before/after school.
We also ask that you do not walk through the parking lot at anytime.  It is a busy spot and we do not want anyone getting hurt.
Thanks for you cooperation.
