Fun Lunch on Tuesday is Little Caesars

There is no school for students on Friday, November 11 (Remembrance Day) and Monday, November 14 (Professional Learning Day)
Thank you very much to our amazing Remembrance Day Committee, Choir, Colour Guard, Wreath layers and students for doing such an amazing job with our assembly.  We want to also thank all the families that joined us.  It was a very memorable assembly.
We hope you all take a moment to reflect and remember those who are or served for our country.  Lest we forget.
Metis Week and Louis Riel Day
Metis Week runs from November 14 - 20.  The week is devoted to commemorating the sacrifices of the Métis who continue to strive toward rights and recognition as a distinct nation.  November 16th is also Louis Riel Day.  This day is one of the most important on the Metis calendar and is used to recognize Riel and promote his vision.  If you would like to know more about Metis culture, please check out the video below.
Student Led Conferences
Our Student Led Conferences will run on Wednesday and Thursday next week from 3:30 - 6:30.  Please sign up for a 10 minute meeting at Glenbow Conference Manager
If you have any questions about booking, please don't hesitate to give us a call.

Glenbow School is pleased to be able to offer a Scholastic Book Fair once again, in person and virtually! The intention of hosting a book fair is to create excitement and bring access to carefully selected literature, all while raising money to help build the school library. Come on down to the Learning Commons during conferences to see what we have. Students are also welcomed to bring money to school to purchase books, however we will not be allowing students to share money. If you do send money, please have a conversation about what it is to be spent on (books, erasers, pens, pencils, posters, etc.) as returns will not be accepted (students are warned of how some items break prior to purchasing). The Learning Commons will be open for business as follows:
Tuesday Nov. 15 - 8:30am to 2:15pm

Wednesday Nov. 16 - 8:30am to 2:15pm and 3:30pm to 6:30pm

Thursday Nov. 16 - 8:30am to 2:15pm and 3:30pm to 6:30pm

Friday Nov. 17 - 8:30am to 2:15pm
The Virtual Book Fair can be found here: https://virtualbookfairs.scholastic.ca/pages/5171172   Virtual orders will be shipped to the school and can go home with your student or held for pickup if the order contains a gift.

Please feel free to contact Mrs. Gaudet at agaudet@rockyview.ab.ca if you have any questions or concerns.

Friends of Glenbow Update
The Friends of Glenbow will have a table set up at the upcoming Student Led Conferences to raise some funds for Glenbow School.  FOG will be selling Domino's Pizza Coupon books.  The books are $22 and you must pay by cash if interested.  Please see the flyer below.
Did you know that FOG just purchased 15 Chromebooks for Glenbow?  Funds raised will be used to support all students at Glenbow for things like technology purchases, special events and field trips.
Do you have any old, clean T shirts that you would like to donate to Glenbow?  Our Ecoschools Ecosquad is looking for T shirts to make reusable bags.  If you would like to donate one, please have your child drop it off at the office and we will pass it along to the Ecosquad!
Relaxed Entry from 7:55 - 8:02am
This is just a reminder that our doors open for students at 7:55am each day for relaxed entry.  No need to arrive early as doors will be locked until 7:55am.  We have supervisors outside each morning and we do not enter the building until all students are inside.  We do a thorough sweep of the school grounds to ensure no one is left outside.  Please feel free to drop and go and we will make sure your child gets inside each morning.
Don't forget your winter gear!!!
Winter has arrived!!!  Please ensure your child is coming with snow pants, toque, mittens and a warm jacket.  We go outside each day even in cold weather.  The only time we limit our time outside is if the temperature drops below -20 degrees celsius.
Chess Club at Glenbow
Does your child want to learn how to play chess? Do they want to develop or improve your skills in chess? Chess Club will run every Wednesday during lunchtime. The club will be run by coaches from Boys and Girls club.
Students will participate in the club during their recess time and return to their class to eat. All ages/grades and all skill levels are welcome!
Our next School Council meeting is on November 23rd.
We have had to reschedule our next School Council meeting.  It will now be held on Wednesday, November 23rd at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons.  All parents are welcome to join.
Our Friends of Glenbow Society will also host their meeting right after our School Council meeting.
Feed the Teachers!!!  Staff Appreciation Dinner Volunteers
Would you be interested in volunteering to help feed the teachers during their upcoming Student Led Conference nights on November 16 and 17?  If so, please send an email to our School Council at glenbow-schoolcouncil@rvschools.ab.ca and they will share more information.

Are you interested in being a volunteer reader?
We are looking for reading volunteers at Glenbow School! If you or a family member are interested in helping children to develop a love of reading, please reach out to our Assistant Principal, Mme Sarah, at scaldwell@rockyview.ab.ca. Volunteering to read with students is a great way to connect with our community and get to know our school outside of your child’s classroom.
We are a Nut Aware and Scent Free school.  This means we want to ensure that all lunch and snacks do not contain nuts.  We have a number of students with life threatening allergies.  This includes things like Nutella and Peanut Butter.  We also have students and staff with severe allergies to scents.  Please do not wear any perfumes or colognes if you are volunteering in the school.  Thanks for your understanding.
Please Drive Slowly in the School Zone!
As we get back to school, please ensure you are driving slowly through the school zone around Glenbow.  We want to ensure all students get to and from school safely each day!
No Parking or Walking in the Staff Parking Lot
This is a reminder that there is no parking in the staff parking lot before/after school.
We also ask that you do not walk through the parking lot at anytime.  It is a busy spot and we do not want anyone getting hurt.
Thanks for you cooperation.
