Visit from Saa'kokoto!
We were so excited to have the opportunity to have a visit from Saa'kokoto, an Elder who is working with Rocky View Schools.  He spoke to our grade 3 and 4 classes and also spent some time outside on the land sharing stories with students.  We are looking to have him visit again to meet with our Kindergarten to Grade 2 students.  All our students were very respectful and enjoyed their time with him.
Thank you to all our families who participated in our Student Led Conferences.  We also want to thank those families who have had to adjust schedules due to illness to accommodate postponed conferences.  It is certainly a busy time with illness!
Please know that you can reach out to your child's teacher at any time should have you any questions or concerns about their progress.
Staff would also like to thank those families that helped Feed the Teachers during the conference nights!!

Powerschool Access for Parents
If you require assistance accessing your child's marks in powerschool, please see the information below.  There is also a video that you can watch to help get things set up.  You can find the video here:  Powerschool for Parents
If you have any troubles, please don't hesitate to give us a call in the office for support.
Please don't park in front of our neighbour's driveways
We have had a couple of calls from our neighbours sharing that parents are parking in front of their driveways during pick up or drop off.  We know it is busy near the school but please be respectful and do not park in front of their driveways.  Remember that you can drop and go as we have supervision each morning and we will ensure all students get in to their classes.
This is also just one more reminder that the parking lot next to the school is for staff only.  We have limited spaces and need to ensure that all staff and maintenance crew have places to park for the day.  Thanks for your understanding.
Do you have any old, clean T shirts that you would like to donate to Glenbow?  Our Ecoschools Ecosquad is looking for T shirts to make reusable bags.  If you would like to donate one, please have your child drop it off at the office and we will pass it along to the Ecosquad!
Don't forget your winter gear!!!
Winter has arrived!!!  Please ensure your child is coming with snow pants, toque, mittens and a warm jacket.  We go outside each day even in cold weather.  The only time we limit our time outside is if the temperature drops below -20 degrees celsius.
Our next School Council meeting is on November 23rd.
Our next School Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 23rd at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons.  All parents are welcome to join.
Our Friends of Glenbow Society will also host their meeting right after our School Council meeting.

Are you interested in being a volunteer reader?
We are looking for reading volunteers at Glenbow School! If you or a family member are interested in helping children to develop a love of reading, please reach out to our Assistant Principal, Mme Sarah, at scaldwell@rockyview.ab.ca. Volunteering to read with students is a great way to connect with our community and get to know our school outside of your child’s classroom.
We are a Nut Aware and Scent Free school.  This means we want to ensure that all lunch and snacks do not contain nuts.  We have a number of students with life threatening allergies.  This includes things like Nutella and Peanut Butter.  We also have students and staff with severe allergies to scents.  Please do not wear any perfumes or colognes if you are volunteering in the school.  Thanks for your understanding.
Please Drive Slowly in the School Zone!
As we get back to school, please ensure you are driving slowly through the school zone around Glenbow.  We want to ensure all students get to and from school safely each day!
No Parking or Walking in the Staff Parking Lot
This is a reminder that there is no parking in the staff parking lot before/after school.
We also ask that you do not walk through the parking lot at anytime.  It is a busy spot and we do not want anyone getting hurt.
Thanks for you cooperation.

Emergency Closure of Schools or Cancellation of Bus Service Procedures
Dear Parents/Guardians:

In accordance with Board Policy 20 and Administrative Procedure AP5501, the following procedures will be followed if/when an emergency closure of a school and/or cancellation of bus service occurs. Please check the Late Bus App-“ Bus Status” (Available to download at Apple store and Google play) to ensure you are accessing the latest information about service and service interruptions.
  1. When schools remains open, it is your responsibility as a parent/guardian to determine if it is safe for your child go to school in/under severe weather conditions or warnings. This is consistent with parental choice and responsibility as outlined in the Education Act.
  2. It is your responsibility as a parent/guardian to make provisions for your child(ren) should school be closed.
    1. If closure procedures are initiated due to weather the school division will provide as much notice as possible. Once school begins for the day, school will not be closed because of weather conditions until regular dismissal time. Should it be deemed unsafe to dismiss students at the usual time, students may be kept at the school until it is deemed safe to depart or until alternate arrangements have been made.
    2. There is a possibility that schools may be closed during the day because of power failures, heating, or plumbing or other plant emergency. Every effort will be made to keep the students at the school; however, if circumstances warrant, students will be transferred to an alternate pre-planned location close by the school until the scheduled dismissal time.
  3. Decisions to close school because of inclement weather or other emergencies will be emailed to families, announced on local radio stations, and posted on the Rocky View Schools’ website, your school website, Facebook and Twitter. Information will also be available on RVS’ Late Bus App – “Bus Status”
  4. In the event that school is open but it is not possible for the bus to drive the bus route, you will have the option of transporting your child(ren) to school. In this case you must also pick up your child(ren) at the end of the school day.
  5. Drivers may also alter or delay their bus routes in response to weather conditions. If bus routes are delayed by more than 1 hour, or if route has been revised, you will be contacted by their bus driver. Any bus route delays more than 10 minutes and less than 1 hour will be updated on the Late Bus App (“Bus Status”).
Thank you for your support. Please contact us at glenbow@rockyview.ab.ca if you have any questions or concerns.

Yours Truly,
Mr. Billings
