Glenbow is excited to share that we will be working towards being a certified Ecoschool this year!  EcoSchools Canada works to nurture environmental leaders, reduce the ecological impact of schools, and build sustainable school communities.  Glenbow will pariticipate in activities throughout the year to add points towards our certification.  Depending on the points earned, we will receive a bronze, silver, gold or platinum certification.  Many things we currently do at Glenbow have already earned us points including planting and harvesting the community garden and our garbage/composting/organics program.
For more information, check out https://ecoschools.ca/
Take Me Outside Day - October 19th
Glenbow will be participating in Take Me Outside Day next Wednesday.  On this day, students will spend an hour of their day learning in the great outdoors!  The outdoor classroom is a fantastic place to learn and to connect with nature.  We also gain points towards our Ecoschools certification by participating!

First Lockdown Practice Drill of the Year
It has been quite some time since we have done our Hour Zero practice drills at Glenbow.  For many students, this is their first time experiencing these drills.  Practicing the drills is a requirement and important for us to prepare for any type of emergency.
We will be hosting our Lockdown Drill practice on Tuesday, October 18 in the afternoon.  Teachers will be speaking to students about the drill and Administration will be walking through the drill itself to ensure that all students feel comfortable and safe during the practice.  Our Community Resource Officer from the RCMP will also be here to support.
We know these drills can be scary for some students and we work hard to ensure they feel supported during the activity.  It may also be a good idea for you as a parent to remind them before school on Tuesday about the practice.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or give us a call in the office.
Halloween Plans for October 31st!
Teams are beginning to make plans for October 31st.  Students are able to bring in prepackaged halloween treats if they choose (not required).  If there are treats brought in, they will be handed out in the afternoon before dismissal.  Students are free to bring costumes and they will put their costumes on after lunch.  Hallways will host their own halloween parade in the afternoon.  Your child's teacher may send out some more specific information shortly.
As we begin organizing our Remembrance Service, we invite you to send photos of family and/or friends who have served or are currently serving in the military.  When you submit your photo, please ensure you provide the following information:
- Name of the member
- Unit they served or are currently serving with
- Year of service
- Relation to your family (name of student and grade) and
- Any other pertinent information you would like to share.
If you have already shared these in past years with Ms. Gaudet, please do not send in again.

Please send your information to Ms. Gaudet by November 4th at agaudet@rockyview.ab.ca
Save the Date!
Glenbow will be hosting in person Student Led 3 Way Conferences on November 16 and 17 from 3:30 - 6:30pm.  Conferences will be booked using the School Conference Manager and will open up for booking on November 9th at 8am.  You are encouraged to visit the Glenbow School Conference Manager to ensure your account is set up and ready to go for the booking day.  You can find the link here:  Conference Manager

Are you interested in being a volunteer reader?
We are looking for reading volunteers at Glenbow School! If you or a family member are interested in helping children to develop a love of reading, please reach out to our Assistant Principal, Mme Sarah, at scaldwell@rockyview.ab.ca. Volunteering to read with students is a great way to connect with our community and get to know our school outside of your child’s classroom.
We are a Nut Aware and Scent Free school.  This means we want to ensure that all lunch and snacks do not contain nuts.  We have a number of students with life threatening allergies.  This includes things like Nutella and Peanut Butter.  We also have students and staff with severe allergies to scents.  Please do not wear any perfumes or colognes if you are volunteering in the school.  Thanks for your understanding.
Please Drive Slowly in the School Zone!
As we get back to school, please ensure you are driving slowly through the school zone around Glenbow.  We want to ensure all students get to and from school safely each day!
No Parking or Walking in the Staff Parking Lot
This is a reminder that there is no parking in the staff parking lot before/after school.
We also ask that you do not walk through the parking lot at anytime.  It is a busy spot and we do not want anyone getting hurt.
Thanks for you cooperation.
